The Independence Homecoming Committee said they plan to celebrate their 11th Triennial event June 28, 29, and 30, 2013. Organizers expect the weekend activities will bring hundreds of former residents and their families from across the country and around the world home to celebrate family and community with local residents.
Organizers are busy planning a series of social and religious activities promoting and providing opportunities to reach out, reconnect, reminisce and share community spirit. Residents are invited to submit theme design ideas by Jan. 15.
“The Independence Homecoming happens every three years in Independence during the weekend near July 4th,” said Charles Barker Sr. who serves as president of the Independence Homecoming Committee. The committee plans the triennial event to encourage, maintain and deepen community ties between current and former residents. Activities promote goodwill and unity while providing a great reason to come “home”. View information about the 2013 Homecoming and pictures of the 2010 and 2007 events at Indyhomecoming.org.
